My favorite character so far has been Lena out of A Raisin in the Sun. She is my favorite because she inspires me. She is such a strong woman and believes in herself and her family so much. She is also my favorite because she reminds me a lot of my grandma. My grandma never gives up on herself or our family and she also has a lot of pride just like Lena. She just makes me believe in myself and that no matter how tough life gets you can get through it.

A Raisin in the Sun has by far been my favorite that we have read. This has been my favorite because it makes you think about what life was like for African-Americans and how they much they struggled. It also made me think about the importance of family and pride. This family is strong even though they go through many struggles and face many problems and it gives me hope that even when my family goes through things that we can get through them.

The Inability to make Meaningful Human Connections

paintersforhumanrights.blogspot.com

I think this picture describes the play because it is like Beatrice is scared and doesnt want to interact with the world and she also doesnt want her children to either so she tries to hold them back.

I think that Beatrice is a big example of this because we hardly ever see her interacting with the outside world. The only time we see this is when she is on the phone and when this happens she is very nasty and shows inability to connect with anyone. Nanny is also example because of her disabilities and being put with someone like Beatrice she is sheltered from the world also.

Examples

1. Beatrice puts paper over the windows of their home like she is trying to keep everything out.

2. She is very mean and rude to the principal when he calls about Tille.

Life Versus Death

shirtwoot.com

This picture describes the play because in the play I believe that Tillie is the life and that she is the character on the right and Beatrice is the death so she is the one on the left and they struggle to come together and change things.

I think in this play death plays an important role. We think a lot about nanny and how old she is just wondering when the day is going to come that she dies. Beatrice is constantly putting her children down and trying to kill what they believe in and do anything to make them unhappy. Beatrice also in the end kills Peter the rabbit with chloroform which really shows us how cruel she can be. I think Tillie is the only one in the play who does not represent this because of her science project and her accomplishment of giving life to the marigolds.

Examples

1. Beatrice kills Peter knowing it will make her daughters very upset.
2. Tillie grows her marigolds even after being put down by just about everyone around her.

Dreams

cybernation.com
I think this picture represents the play because I think that the dreams that the characters have are only going to be achieved if they really believe.

I think that dreams are important in this play. For Beatrice her biggest dream obviously is to open a tea shop. We are also constantly reminded about Ruth's past because of a dream she has and Beatrice is able to calm her by telling her a dream she used to have all the time. Tillie's biggest dream I believe is one she found at school in her science class.

Examples
1 Ruth wakes up and has has a seizure because of a dream she had about mr. Mayo.
2. Beatrice constantly talks about opening her very own tea shop.

Self-Image

manmadecreations.com
This picture represents self image because when each of the characters look in the mirror they see something different and what they see is how they act and respond to things.

Ruth is very worried about the way that she appears to others. I think she takes this after Beatrice because she is the same way. I think Ruth is willing to do about anything to fit in. She also thinks of Tillie as an embarrassment because she doesn't care so much about her appearance. Tillie knows she gets teased all the time but yet she still believes in herself and doesn't try to change to fit in.

Examples
1. Ruth is completely embarrassed by Tillie when she gives her demonstration of the atom at school.
2. Even though Tillie gets made fun of for her atom she sticks with it and doesn't let it bother her.

Triumph in the Face of Adversity

obnosis.com

I think this picture describes the play because Beatrice has always wanted to achieve her dream but, never has yet so when she does it will be that much more satisfying.

In the play Beatrice lets what has happened in her life get to her very badly. She wants to make things better but she lets how she acts to everything stand in the way of this. She doesn't see anything good and i think she takes this out a lot on her children. Tillie however can see good in just about anything. She doesn't let things get to her and she always is able to stand back up after she has been knocked down.

Examples
1. Although Beatrice always puts Tillie down she doesnt let it get to her and still believes in herself.
2. Beatrice lets things get to her and she takes it out on her children constantly by bickering at them and never just appreciating them
